The philosophy of Uncorked is centered on the idea that above everything else the customer should like the way a wine tastes. To further that philosophy we have installed the WineStations from Napa Technology to provide our customers with the ability to taste before they buy. Our WineStations feature 48 wines from around the world and the selections typically change at a rate of about 25% per week. The WineStations are a self-service system that allows the customer to try new wines at his or her own pace. If desired, we are always available to provide additional information about the wines and to help guide the customer to something that he or she may enjoy trying. One of the additional benefits we have found from the WineStations is that our customers are better able to tell us what they do and don’t like in a wine by tasting a few wines and simply saying whether or not they like them. It is much easier for a customer to say “yes, I like it” or “no, I don’t like it” than try to describe the tobacco and leathery nose or ripe flavors of apple. This tasting exercise allows us to make better recommendations to our customers from our entire inventory because we can understand each customer’s palate through his or her taste rather than just words.
